Phylum - Platyhelminthes [ ‘flatworms’]

  • Body - slender & flat like a leaf or strip.
  • Most - endoparasites. Few - free-living & aquatic.
  • Acoelomate & bilaterally symmetrical.
  • Triploblastic  
  • Hermaphrodite i.e. male and female reproductive systems are present in the same animal body.
  • Examples: Planaria, Liver fluke,Tape worm,etc.


Phylum- Aschelminthes [roundworms] :

  • Body -long thread-like or cylindrical. 
  • Either free living or endoparasites. 
  • Free living animals - either aquatic or terrestrial. 
  • Triploblastic and pseudocoelomate.
  • Body - non-segmented and covered with tough cuticle.
  • Unisexual.
  • Examples: Ascaris (Intestinal worm), Filarial worm, Loa loa (Eye worm), etc.
